This is because computer programmers are constantly refining their software applications and creating more elaborate programs. These elaborate programs require more processor power to run effectively.

Normally, people will purchase a new computer once their existing computer begins to face serious performance issues when using an important piece of new software. This may occur once every two to five years, depending on the user criteria.

However, there is another option for those who wish to get the most use out of their old computer equipment. Old computer hardware can be reconditioned to improve the overall performance of the system. There are many different techniques that a computer owner can use to recondition their computer hardware.

One of the most common techniques is cleaning the interior of the case. This may sound like it would not have a major impact on computer performance, but it actually does. Computer performance is closely tied to heat. Every computer component generates heat. The components that generate the most heat have cooling apparatus installed on them.

For example, a computer’s processor has a cooling fan and heat sink. When the heat sink and fan gets clogged with dust, the processor may not be receiving appropriate cooling. This can cause the processor to underperform and crash. By cleaning out all of the dust in the heat sink and fan, the processor will receive all of the cooling it needs to perform its task.

Another common method of reconditioning old computer hardware involves checking wiring connections. Computers have multiple internal parts, all of which are interconnected by power and data wires. Loose connections may result in unstable computer performance. For example, a loose data cable may work most of the time, but it fails every once in a while. This may cause a loss of data, a computer crash, or a computer freeze. By checking all of the power and data connections, a computer owner can ensure that the internal components are fitted properly and will not lead to performance issues.

Socket connections are another type of connection used to link together computer components. Sockets are used to install devices like memory, processors, and expansion cards. If a device is not seated perfectly inside its socket, it can lead to hardware failure. By removing all of the socketed devices from a computer and reseating them, a computer owner can verify that each component has a good connection.
